Hannah makes unique piece of jewelry. Above is one that made me the artist of me swoon. Not only is it a beautiful piece but it also has function and randomly generated beauty.
1 Who are you and what artforms do you use?
Hello my name is Hannah I am a wife and mother of twin daughters. My main medium now is metals and gemstones, to create one of a kind jewelry. I do create personal works of art as a hobby that include painting, drawing, wood burning and refinishing. I am a true artist to the core, there has never been a time in my life where I wasn’t creating some form of art. I believe it’s what I’m meant for and could not live my life without creating.
2 What are your 5 favorite movies?
I love movies and have so many favorites, but I think my top 5 would be Tim burton’s Big Fish, Lucky Number Sleven, M. Night Shyamalan’s Unbreakable, Fried Green Tomatoes, and Donnie Darko
3 How has your craft developed?
As I mentioned I have dabbled in almost every form of art media and love them all, but my love for geology led me to discover jewelry making. I pride myself on being self-taught in all my art and it was no different for learning jewelry design. The internet is an amazing source for learning and can teach you almost anything, so I have spent a lot of time studying what I can from it. I continue to try new things and grow in my jewelry design journey, and I think that will never end. There is always something new and exciting to learn.
4 What are your artistic inspirations?
I am inspired by EVERYTHING! I get my creative drive from the beauty in the world around me. I draw inspiration from nature, the culture I live in and other forms of art. Mostly I go with the flow and create what comes to me in the moment.
5 What is an artist or art form that is catching your attention?
My all time favorite artist is Salvador Dali. I love to find new artists and art forms on Instagram and other social media. Lately I have found an independent artist that does leather work and hide tanning named islandgirlhides (Instagram screenname)
6 What is the best piece of advice a fellow artist gave you?
The best piece of advice I have gotten was years ago from a local Solvang artist who said “keep creating and putting your work out there, no matter what just keep going”
7How do you seek opportunities to share your art?
Any way I can. The internet is a great community resource for artists, and in person I try to stay as active in my local cities as I can.
8 Where would you like your art to go? Thematically and style?
I’m hoping my art can turn into something that is unique to my community and me. Jewelry can sometimes be very parallel in terms of function and sometimes style, so to make things that are unique in both those areas is my goal.
9 What time of the day are you most creative and why?
That’s a tough question. I think for me it’s more of “when I get an idea, I need to get it out”. I almost have to stop what I’m doing when a creative thought comes because it just needs to be put into fruition. That being said, I do struggle with artists' block from time to time as I’m sure we all do, but art is so much a part of my being that when I don’t create, I become depressed, and if I become depressed the only solution is to create. solution is to create.
