Parker is someone I discovered in my ever-widening quest to find new artists and friends. His style reminds me of some of the characters from Darksouls but the color and style are all his own. Check out his amazing figures and enjoy the fun answers in his interview
When I first noticed Danielle's art in a Facebook group we have in common. Her style to reminds me of the dreams of high fantasy we have as children and I hope we continue to enjoy and treasure as adults.
1 Who are you and what artforms do you use?
My name is Parker Dunse. I’m an illustrator and caricaturist who works with pencils, markers, airbrush, paint, and digital media.
2 What are your 5 favorite movies?
Total Recall
The Lighthouse
Excalibur
Evil Dead 2
Ninja Scroll
3 How has your craft developed?
Slowly and rockily over time. My craftsmanship was always the weakest until I took a job drawing caricatures. I also took a job illustrating a children’s book, which changed my perception of the industry and my ability to work within deadlines.
4 What are your artistic inspirations?
Pieter Brueghel The Elder
Frank Frazetta
Egon Schiele
Kentaro Miura
Billy Childish
5 What is an artist or art form that is catching your attention?
Midjourney and AI art is becoming impossible to ignore. That troubles me somewhat but it also presents all kinds of opportunities. I’ve seen a lot of uses of the tool to make Conan the Barbarian concepts which, while I would never call finished, almost sort of work. The future of that could be great, could also be a nightmare.
6 What is the best piece of advice a fellow artist gave you?
Make art you don’t intend to share with others and use that as a license to shamelessly copy and recreate art that you like. This will imprint upon you the skills to more effectively imitate it and develop your own style. A lot of people, myself included for a very long time, don’t do this because they feel it’s inauthentic. It isn’t, it helps very much.
7 How do you seek opportunities to share your art?
Social media and art spaces on the internet help very much. I also have an art job that allows me to work publicly.
8 Where would you like your art to go? Thematically and style?
I'm often slow in the planning and drafting of my work, which ends up affecting its overall development. I am to overcome this with more time spent planning art. Thematically I’d like my work to tell more of a story.
9 What do you think is your best quality as an artist?
I just haven’t given up. No special talents and no particular insight. I just took the time to practice.
